The narrow, sheer road winds on endlessly. Up. Down. Despite the sharp turns, you find yourself stopping — captivated by the emerald water of the Crnojević River as it flows into Lake Skadar, framing the pyramid-shaped island peaks that rise toward the sky and stretch away toward the horizon. The view shifts with every passing moment, and you can't resist stopping again and again, gazing into the distance, trying to hold the moment still by capturing it in a photograph. Onward, then — one shot after another — until the valley opens before you, framed by hills. You descend.
It doesn't feel like reality. Life seems to stand still, as if your heart has stopped beating so as not to disturb the silence, the extraordinary harmony of this present moment. Blue-green water reflected in your eyes; a gondola-like boat; a lone fisherman; a painter on the shore, also trying to arrest the passage of time; trees studded with persimmons like orange ornaments; a solitary mushroom hiding in the thick grass; fishermen's houses; an endless blue sky — all of it mirrored in the magically still surface of the river, calling to mind Monet's canvases. At some point you lose track of what is reality and what is only its reflection…
But the true protagonist here is the Bridge. Power and grace, strength and fragility, timelessness and fleeting freshness — all of it lives within it… This is the Bridge Through Eternity.
